The Door Gallery Cafe

I visited The Door Gallery Cafe after a long ride, initially just looking for a nice coffee before heading home. What I found was a surprisingly unique and refreshing place. Unlike most cafes, this one is located in a former factory area that has been beautifully transformed into a vibrant, nostalgic space. It’s a place where people come not only to eat and drink but also to reflect on the past. The cafe itself has a calm and welcoming vibe. One standout feature is their live band performances—every Saturday night and again from 1 PM on Sundays, continuing into the evening. It adds a warm and creative energy to the setting that’s hard to find elsewhere. I had a coffee and a slice of cake, which were exactly what I needed. I was low on energy, and it gave me the perfect little boost. The quality was satisfying, and the staff were kind. I’ll definitely be back again soon, and this time, I’ll bring more friends to share the experience. One Suggestion: This place has massive potential. With just a few thoughtful changes, it could truly become a local gem and attract even more visitors. The foundation is already there; a little fine-tuning could make it tremendously popular.

I had the misfortune of dining here a couple of years back. We ordered chips. The chips we got were so shrivelled and dry they would have to have been sitting out for a couple of hours. The couple next to us got fresh hot chips so I politely asked the waitress for something fresher. She actually sneered at me, shoved her fingers into our food picked a chip up out of the bowl and squished it between her fingers before dropping it back in saying "whaddaya talking about they're fine" The owner(a horrible man who should not be working in customer service) noticed and came to ask about the problem. He laughed, he also deliberately made a spectacle of us, turning around the other tables loudly asking "what do you expect in a potato shortage" and then glared at us. He seemed to think there nothing wrong with the quality of food he had served nor in deliberately trying to humiliate a customer. After he laughed at us a bit more he made a few other rude remarks I won't repeat and walked off. It was my birthday. I left in tears.

I came to gallery door for an afternoon coffee catch up, I was blown away by how beautiful it is! I will definitely be coming back again, if you’re looking for a nice spot for a coffee then this is it! There are so many spots to sit and the mill is so much fun to explore.

Unique spot to have a coffee in an historical paper mill. Location in itself is worth a visit 🙂 Coffee was ok , bit weak and milky for my liking. Super quick to get coffees out. Food choice was poor , had 3 or 4 items missing off menu. Bagel was fair , a bit dry and lacking for the price. Chips were excellent, and toasties looked great. Some staff super happy, others were rather grumpy and not as welcoming.

I can only comment as a coffee stop. 10 minutes from the centre of Geelong but feels so much more. A quirky cafe set in the old mill precinct amongst art studios. I love how the area has retained its sense of history and not over restored. The cafe is a great stop for a coffee after a walk along the Buckley's Falls track. Great in winter to see the river in full flow.
