Barwon River

The Barwon River has to be one of the most beautiful rivers to flow through a major city in Victoria. It is by far my favourite when it comes to kayaking early in the morning or late in the evening, summer or winter. I love the bird life, all the cormorants, darts, ducks, water hens, cockatoos, magpies, ibis, even the odd pelican!

The river is very important component for the flora and fauna in the area. Not much rubbish around the area which is good, although due to the lack of rain, some of the plant life is looking a bit dry.

Excellent track. You can ride or walk this one and go for over 15km or much less if you would like. It's mostly flat and has plenty of places to sit and take in the "serenity."

Barwon River begins in the Ottaway Ranges in Regional Victoria and is one of the most Iconic River Systems travelling 160kms across Victoria's Agricultural Area. At Inverleigh, the Leigh River merges with The Barwon and in Fyansford, The Moorabool River also merges with the Barwon River. There is a 20km Barwon River WalkingTrail that starts on Hyland Street in Fyansford and follows the Barwon River to Breakwater Road, Geelong South where it Ends. The Barwon River eventually runs into the Sea at Barwon Heads in Ocean Grove.

It’s wet and goes a long way. Plenty of fun area to explore and enjoy for all ages. Natural beauty.
